Report Pollution and Water Waste at the Great Salt Lake

Thank you for your commitment to keeping our waterways clean and healthy! If you come across a situation involving pollution in our waterways, please report it to the Great Salt Lake Waterkeeper by emailing info@utahrivers.org.

You may also call or text 801-317-8464 to make a report.

If you are reporting an active petroleum spill, chemical spill, or other emergency situation, please contact the Utah Department of Environmental Quality via their 24-hour incident phone number at 801-536-4123.

Contact your local police and emergency responders through 911 if there are immediate threats to life or property.

Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind when reporting:

  • Document what you observe, and, if possible, take photos or videos.
  • Describe the water's appearance, any unusual smells or colors, and anything else that doesn't seem quite right.
  • Make note of the exact location, any landmarks, weather conditions, and the time of day.
  • Use your mobile device to create a shareable pin on a map.

If there are any distinctive features of the source of potential pollution, such as a vehicle or watercraft type, a company name, or a license plate number, please include that information in your report.
